Pull ups are an upper body exercise that involves multiple muscles such as back and arm muscles. It is incredibly good exercise for arm power and through trainings, one is able to increase the number of repetitions.
In Singapore, it is part of the Physical Fitness Test and one should obtain at least 4 pull ups to attain a pass (dependent on the age). For National Service, more emphasis was made for this exercise and they includes alot of exercises that improves the arm power of males.
Many people regard it as a 'tough exercise.' I agree in my own accord. In secondary one, I actually failed my pull up, scoring nil for it. However, for secondary two, I did 6 pull ups. This was achievable through other exercises such as push-ups, weight lifting, hanging on the bar and swimming.
Pull ups definitely need time and training to achieve it. My peers in the army, consistently tried their best to break the egg in pull ups. And through three months of vigorous training, they managed to not only cleared a pass, but obtained 8 pull ups in the physical fitness test. This sheer determination really paid them off.
I have also heard alot of Singaporeans, especially those about to enter the National Service, trained hard for their physical fitness a month before they enter. This should not be the wise choice. In fact, what I recommend is that everyone should make pull up as part of their lifestyle. This not only can help them to maintain part of their fitness, they are able to have better results as time passes. Consistent effort brings confidence and great results!
Quite a few of my friends have pull up bars at home. However, they all have the similarity. Firstly, they all never fail their pull ups and secondly, they are well-built.
